If you need a break from shopping, here are two June exhibitions on display at South Coast Plaza: “Courage of Imagination” and “The Art of the Chronograph.”
“The Art of the Chronograph”
June 10-22, 2015
Glashütte Original, a German watchmaking company, is showcasing “The Art of the Chronograph” outside the Tourbillon Boutique to celebrate the launch of its new Calibre 37 Chronograph timepieces. The exhibition comes to SoCal after visiting Dresden, Stuttgart, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Chicago and New York on its world tour. It features a collection of vintage and contemporary timepieces created in Glashütte, as well as a dissembled Calibre 37 Chronograph and its hundreds of pieces. (glashutte-original.com)
“Courage of Imagination”
May 8 – June 30, 2015
South Coast Plaza is paying tribute to the late Henry Segerstrom, who died earlier this year. In this exhibition in the shopping center’s Jewel Court, Segerstrom’s life and legacy is celebrated through a multimedia display of photographs, sculptures and memorabilia selected by his wife Elizabeth. “Courage of Imagination,” which was originally slated to end May 31 but was extended to June 30, goes back to his early career in developing South Coast Plaza and his involvement with the arts. Vintage photographs and archival videos are broadcasted on a larger-than-life screen that welcomes visitors inside the pop-up gallery. Relearn the story of Segerstrom’s rise to the top of Southern California’s business world and view a selection of major sculptures by Alexander Calder and Joan Miró—evidence of his commitment to supporting the artistic community.
