Ten Asian Bistro
Head to Ten Asian Bistro for unique Asian fusion flavor combinations and tasty sushi and sashimi.- By Micaela Myers
Ten Asian Bistro, located on MacArthur on your way into or out of Irvine, stands as a welcoming haven for sushi and Asian fusion lovers. Guests are greeted with splashing waterfalls and ponds as they cross the bridge into the expansive restaurant. Inside, a modern, open interior with rich colors offers plenty of room for large parties, or dinner for two at a corner table or along the sushi bar.
Of course, the sushi bar is where the action is. Watch Master Sushi Chef Akira Furiya and his Sous Chef Scott Bartnicki as they create exquisite and creative sushi rolls and sashimi. A favorite is the Keoni roll made with shrimp tempura, cucumber, avocado, crab, seared peppercorn ahi and crispy onion. And don’t miss the sushi bar specials, such as the Volcano made with baked crab, scallops, asparagus, halibut and garlic aioli; the salmon or halibut carpaccio seared with hot yuzu soy olive oil; or the yellowtail jalapeno sashimi with yuzu soy dressing. Had enough fish? Try the beef tataki—a seared filet with house miso sauce and cherry tomatoes.
Vegetarians can start off with the chili garlic edamame and drunken mushroom miso soup—spicy drunken mushrooms, green onion, soft tofu and wakame. Both are flavorful takes on the usual starters. Aside from a traditional vegetarian roll, enjoy the mushroom and grilled eggplant roll with asparagus, roasted tomato coulis and ponzu sauce. Personally, my favorite course is always dessert. Put your order in early for the chocolate soufflé, which takes 20 minutes to make but is well worth it—featuring bittersweet chocolate ice cream, strawberry sauce and whipped cream.
All of Ten Asian’s dishes are made from scratch, including homemade sauces and infused sakes all the way down to the almond butter cookies. Fresh seafood and produce are delivered daily, and guests will appreciate the unique flavor combinations and extensive menu (several pages long).
Keep an eye out for Ten Asian’s constantly evolving specials, including happy hour throughout the restaurant every Tuesday from 5 -10 p.m.; Wednesday locals night, offering 50 percent off for residents of Newport Beach, Irvine and Costa Mesa; Full House Fridays, where any group of 10 to 30 people get that percentage of their bill discounted; and Sake Saturdays with specials on all sake, including house-made infused sake flights.
