Supporters Raise $45,000 for CASA During Betting By the Bay at Balboa Bay Club

More than 175 volunteers and donors turned out for the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Diamonds & Denim Betting by the Bay event at the Balboa Bay Club on Aug. 3, raising $45,000 to fund activities for the advocates and children. CASA spokesman and musician Jimmy Wayne performed and shared his own story of foster care and homelessness. Attendees—many dressed in diamonds and denim, of course!—enjoyed a live and silent auction, dinner, drinks and dancing, as well as Vegas-style gaming. Approximately 200,000 volunteer hours will be devoted to abused, abandoned and neglected children in 2012 through the Orange County-based organization. CASA aims to break the vicious cycle of child abuse by speaking up for abused children who are lost in the system and guiding them into environments where they can thrive. —M.M.
