Opened in late August, Holsteins Shakes and Buns offers plenty of reason to cross the border this fall. Hailing from Las Vegas—specifically, inside The Cosmopolitan—Holsteins’ second location is shaking up the South Coast Plaza dining scene with its contemporary burger menu. After moving into the vacated Charlie Palmer spot in Bloomingdale’s, the restaurant began serving up house-made buns, condiments and toppings for its dozen-plus burgers. Appetizers, salads and heartier entrees of steak and seafood are also available, but a big draw is the beverage selection. A huge bottled craft beer collection from regional and national craft breweries such as Stone and Green Flash complements more than a dozen beers on tap, while nearly 20 cocktails run the gamut from fruit-forward to whiskey wild. For a sweet finish, the “Bam-Boozled” shakes are the perfect marriage of after-dinner cocktails and dessert—try the Campfire S’mores, with Smirnoff Fluffed Marshmallow vodka, chocolate marshmallow and graham cracker crumble.
